Dental Implants Matamata

A permanent solution for missing teeth.

Dental implants are a long-lasting, reliable way to replace one tooth, several teeth, or even a full arch. An implant is a small titanium post that’s surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as a replacement root. Once healed, it provides a strong foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture — restoring both the function and appearance of natural teeth.

Implant-supported teeth look, feel, and perform just like the real thing. They’re the most durable and lifelike tooth replacement option available.

Why Replace Missing Teeth?

Missing teeth aren’t just a cosmetic concern — they can affect your bite, speech, and overall oral health. Gaps may cause nearby teeth to shift, leading to misalignment and wear. Over time, the jawbone around a missing tooth can begin to shrink, as it’s no longer being stimulated by a tooth root. This bone loss can change the shape of your face and make future dental treatment more complex.

Dental implants not only restore your smile but also help preserve your jawbone and prevent long-term issues.

Our Implant Process: What’s Involved?

  • We start with a comprehensive full mouth examination, digital X-rays, a dental 3D CT scan and TRIOS Scan. The scanned images provide high-resolution 3D 360-degree views of your teeth, jawbone and the surrounding structures. We uses these images and scans for precise treatment planning.

  • Using the 3D images in special planning software, the Dentist maps out the exact position and angle of insertion of each implant. They take care to place implants where they will be stable and in the best position to support the replacement teeth. We also plan out any bone grafting needed to ensure the implants have strong bone support.

  • The next step is oral surgery to place the dental implants. Small incisions are made in the gums and the implants are securely positioned in the gap. A temporary replacement, like a suck-down splint or your existing partial plate, will be provided. Following our post-op care guide is key to a smooth recovery.

  • The most important stage of getting dental implants is the recovery period. Over 4–6 months, the implant fuses with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable foundation for future restorations.

Because implant placement is a surgical procedure, we use local anaesthetic and may recommend sedation to keep you comfortable throughout.

  • The second stage of surgery takes place 3 to 6 months after implant placement. We check the implant has fully integrated with the bone, then attach a small connector called an abutment. This acts as the base for your new tooth or restoration.

  • Once the abutment is in place, we’ll take an impression to create your permanent restoration. In some cases, we can make the crown in-house, while others may be sent to an external lab. When it’s ready, you’ll return to have it securely fitted. Your new tooth will look natural — and after a short adjustment period, it’ll feel just like your own.

  • A CBCT scan, or cone beam computed tomography scan, is a type of X-ray that uses a digital computer and a rotating machine that produces a cone-shaped X-ray. This way, the Dentist can see clear, 3D images of tissues, blood vessels, nerves and bone. This is far beyond the abilities of a simple X-ray.

  • Using the TRIOS 5 (a handheld digital scanner), we take a highly accurate 3D digital impression of your mouth. The scan captures the precise shape, size, and shade of your teeth, allowing us to design your restoration with exceptional accuracy and comfort — all without messy impression materials.

  • We manufacture and use a surgical guide to aid in efficient, accurate and minimally invasive implant placement. A surgical guide is a template that fits over the dental arch and marks exactly where and at what angle to place each implant.
